MEDICAL / HOSPITAL BLANKET WARMERS IMPORTANCE
Patients can be adversely affected by low temperatures in surgical suites and other medical procedure rooms like Cath Labs, Chemo Infusion and Endoscopy suites as well as long wait times in Emergency Room and Pre-operative and Recovery areas. It is vitally important to maintaining patients’ normal body temperature. A first step for maintaining the patients body temperature is to warm blanket and/or IV fluids in a Blanket warmer or warming cabinet. 1
There is an increased risk of hypothermia during and after procedures, so it is important to utilize a hospital blanket warmer. Hypothermia increases the risk of surgical site infection (SSI), and Hospital Acquired Infection (HAIs). These infections can often increases the patient’s length of hospital stay and are not covered by the patient’s insurance. Therefore they increase the costs of treatment for the facility and are not reimbursable . Hypothermia may include increase cardiac events and difficulties in coagulation. When the healthcare facility provides patients with blankets /linens and sterile IV/surgical irrigation fluids warmed in a medical blanket warmer throughout all phases of the procedure, they are taking important proactive steps in prevention a dangerous or catastrophic hypothermic event.
